For “make urself at home,” Katya recreated the closest thing she had to a childhood bedroom, which she abruptly moved out of in 2022. The space carries so much history and sentiment, and she wanted to channel this energy into an immersive environment which could be shared communally. The 3-channel piece features home footage her dad took, footage of her late goldfish, and a permanent projection of her sleeping in bed. The feeling of safety and closeness is created through these videos, decorations taken from her room and the sound of the lullaby she used to hear every night as a child. Through these comforting elements, people are able to experience one of her most personal places for themselves.
